Fellowships and scholarships offer one means of support for graduate students in the Department of Sociology.

Financial support for graduate study at UC Davis is available in several forms, including External Fellowships, UC Davis Internal Fellowships, Academic Employment, Nonresident Supplemental Tuition (NRST), fellowship programs for nonresident alien students, and loans. The Graduate Studies financial support page offers an overview and further information about various types of supplemental funding.

Departmental Fellowships

The Department of Sociology has limited fellowship funds available for the recruitment of new students and to support continuing students. The philosophy of the department is to support incoming students with a combination of fellowships and teaching assistantships during their first year. In subsequent years, students are appointed as either teaching assistants, graduate student research assistants, associate instructors or a combination of these three. During the dissertation period, students may apply for fellowship support to assist them in their writing.

Graduate Research Awards

UC Davis Graduate Research Awards are intended as a source of financial support to enable students to conduct their research projects. Applicants may be pursuing either the master's or doctoral degree. Grants of up to $1,500 per student are awarded within each fiscal year. They are awarded for specific needs vital to the success of the research and provide for those needs that cannot be reasonably met from personal resources or from the student's major department.

Fellowships and Scholarships

The university offers a limited number of fellowships and scholarships, awarded on the basis of outstanding academic achievement and high promise. Some are based on financial need. We encourage all students to complete the Online application for internal fellowships with Graduate Studies.
