Laura Grindstaff offered and accepted a three-year term as Director of the Consortium for Women and Research

We begin this new academic year with an announcement about our colleague Laura Grindstaff, who has been offered (and has accepted) a three-year term as Director of the Consortium for Women and Research.

The Consortium has played an important role in supporting many of our careers over the last 15 years, by providing research and travel funding to graduate students and research money to faculty; acknowledging faculty mentors with its annual mentor award; bringing in speakers to address issues of interest to scholars interested in gender, and to women in underrepresented fields; and hosting events such as the Women, Wine, and Music Celebration last April. A number of us have enjoyed participating on the Consortium Faculty Board over the years, as well.

Being appointed Consortium Director is a real honor--it's also great having a sociology department faculty member in this position. (The appointment was recommended by the Associate Vice Chancellor for Research, Bernd Hamann, and approved by Chancellor Vanderhoef.)

Congratulations, Laura!
