Submit your application to the Department of Sociology graduate program using the Internet.

Application deadline: December 15

UC Davis uses an online application process. Applicants for the Department of Sociology Graduate Program must electronically submit each of these required components:

  • Application
  • Statement of Purpose and Personal History Statement
  • Prior experience essay
  • One example of written work
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Graduate Record Examination scores
  • Fellowship Application
  • TOEFL scores (foreign students only)
  • Application fee, paid by credit card or e-check. The fee must be paid before the application will be considered as complete, and the fee must be paid for each application submitted. Consult the Graduate Studies website for fee information.
  • Official college transcripts

Review the Department of Sociology's graduate program admission requirements for details about each of these components.

Incomplete applications result in no action. All materials must be submitted and received no later than December 15 (including official transcripts, and GRE and TOEFL scores). The applicant is responsible for ensuring that all materials are submitted by the deadline. The department will not contact applicants if materials are missing. Admission is for fall quarter only.

For more information, check the UC Davis Graduate Studies overview of steps to applying.

Review procedures and notification

The Department of Sociology's Committee on Admissions and Support reviews and makes admission decisions only on applications that are complete. The departmental decision to admit, deny or cancel an application is sent to Graduate Studies for final action by the dean. Applicants with completed applications will be notified of acceptance or denial within 10 to 12 weeks of the December 15 application deadline. Applicants with incomplete applications (e.g., lacking transcripts, GRE scores or letters of recommendation) will not be notified. Applicants are encouraged to contact the Sociology graduate program coordinator with any questions about the application process or their application. You may request application materials and information on UC Davis requirements for admission to graduate study from Graduate Studies.

Deadlines are important in the application process. For consideration of admission to graduate study and financial assistance, all application materials must be received by the dates indicated. Late applications will not be accepted. Address inquiries concerning any aspect of the application process to:
