About
Colleen Sargent is a PhD student who joined the department of Sociology in Fall of 2019. Her primary research areas are gender, sexuality, reproduction, and sociology of the body. Particularly, she is interested in cases where teens' or women's bodies are controlled, and their access to reproductive and sexual agency is limited. She is currently collecting interview data for a qualitative study of home birth experiences in California, as well as working on a collaborative research team led by Dr. Laura Grindstaff to examine Twitter hashtag activism related to social movements including: Black Lives Matter, Me Too, Say Her Name, and Us Too. She is broadly interested in feminist theory, queer theory, and qualitative methods. During the 2020-2021 AY, Colleen is serving as GSSA (Graduate Students of Sociology Association) co-chair, alongside fellow graduate student and co-chair Emily Searl.
