Professor John Hall’s book, "Apocalypse: From Antiquity to the Empire of Modernity," wins the Distinguished Book Award from the American Sociological Association, Sociology of Religion section.
The award was given at the Annual Meetings of the American Sociological Meetings in Atlanta on August 14, 2010. John’s book also received kudos in a review published this month in the European Journal of Social Theory: “Hall has produced an absorbing and in many respects original account of a longstanding and large-scale phenomenon that has too often been treated as outlandish and, in any case, primitive and pre-modern. He demonstrates, with a wealth of detail, the persistence of the apocalyptic mode in some of the central events of Western history, up to and very much including the present. Views of modernity without the apocalypse will now seem very incomplete.” Hall’s Apocalypse is available at Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/Apocalypse-Antiquity-Modernity-John-Hall/dp/0745645089/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1282955751&sr=1-3).
