Haruka Sugimori is a doctoral student in Sociology. Her research interests include technoscientific knowledge and expertise, moral and professional beliefs, and risk perceptions with a particular focus on the alternative protein movements in the United States and Singapore. Her M.Soc.Sci. thesis examined the reskilling strategies of food scientists innovating novel foods, such as cell-cultured and plant-based proteins, in Singapore. Drawing on in-depth interview data, the research explored the scientists' reskilling as a future-oriented practice of capital reappropriation, delineating new skill categories calibrated to anticipated innovation and production demands.
Haruka received her Master of Social Sciences in Sociology from National University of Singapore and completed the NUS-Waseda Double Degree Program (B.A. Sociology and B.A. International Liberal Studies). Previously, she worked as a human resources professional at Goldman Sachs in Tokyo and Hong Kong.
