Lyn Lofland in Memoriam
The Sociology community at UC Davis is saddened to share news that Lyn Lofland, a much-beloved emerita professor in our department, died on September 7th, 2022. She passed peacefully at home in hospice with her spouse and lifelong colleague, John Lofland, at her side.
Author of four books, one coauthored with John, Lyn was a brilliant scholar and a foundational force in the discipline. She was also a dedicated teacher and mentor of students and faculty alike. Lyn was serving as Department Chair when I came to UC Davis 22 years ago. I will forever be grateful for her leadership and advocacy, as well as her wry humor and indefatigable spirit.
