New Freshmen

Welcome to Sociology at UC Davis!

We are excited to meet you and look forward to connecting with you through your academic journey!

As you start thinking about your fall schedule, you will want to complete the required Aggie 101 and Aggie Advising Canvas Program as well as checking out the information below.

Incoming Freshman should plan to take lower division courses (courses numbered 001–099) during their first year.

We typically recommend that you take 12-14 units for your first quarter.  This typically would include several GE courses along with a course required for the SOC major.

12 units is required each quarter to remain in full-time status and to qualify for financial aid and on-campus housing.  If you need to register for part-time status, you can seek advice from an advisor about the process of registering as a part-time student.

If you are planning to change majors, you can choose courses from the curriculum of your major of interest.

The Sociology department offers several options and the lower division coursework is different for each emphasis.  You can check out the different emphases and their requirements on our majors page.
