Ariana J. Valle publishes report with UCLA Latino Policy Insitute

This co-authored report is based on a study conducted in collaboration with the UCLA Latino Policy and Politics Institute and affiliated scholar experts. The title of the report is “The Cost of Fear: The Impacts of Immigration Enforcement on Small Businesses and Latino Entrepreneurs in LA County.” It examines the immediate economic costs to businesses near immigration enforcement sites during the June 2025 surge, and the mounting toll on Latino entrepreneurs in Los Angeles County. A key study finding is that within 2 weeks of enforcement operations, formal businesses near nine enforcement sites experienced 46,000 fewer visits and an estimated $3.16 million in accumulated losses. Given widespread enforcement activity throughout the County during summer of 2025, these findings imply an estimated county-wide revenue loss of approximately $52 million within two weeks of heightened immigration enforcement activity and $114 million over a month.
