Jacob R. Hibel awarded research grant from the US Dept of Education's Institute for Education Sciences
Professor Jacob R. Hibel has been awarded $1.7 million from the US Department of Education's Institute of Education Sciences to investigate "Structuring Special Education Supports for Student Success in K-12 Schooling and Beyond."
The purpose of Hibel's project is to provide a first-of-its-kind accounting of the variety of special education staffing profiles employed across Oregon public schools, a detailed assessment of students with disabilities’ curricular integration during middle and high schools, and an evaluation of how these education system factors relate to students with disabilities long-term college, career, and transition to adulthood pathways. This research project will highlight promising policy and practice levers with the potential to provide effective and equitable opportunities for learners with diverse abilities and will provide a robust evidence base to guide future causal research on targeted system-level interventions to improve long-term outcomes among students with disabilities.
The project is a part of the National Center for Special Education Research (NCSER)'s program of field-initiated research to foster solutions to pressing problems faced by students with disabilities, their families, and education systems. Through its Special Education Research Grants program, NCSER supports research to improve the quality of education and opportunities for all learners with or at risk for disabilities from birth through postsecondary education.
Jacob Hibel is Professor of Sociology and a Co-Director of the Center for Poverty & Inequality Research. You can find more information on his research here.
